Principals
Dato' Azam Azman
Founder & Managing Partner
Dato’ Azam bin Azman co-founded COPE Private Equity in 2005. He is the Managing Partner of the firm and also a member of the Investment Committee and Advisory Board. He has over thirty-two (32) years of banking/investment experience with more than twenty-six (26) years of direct experience in private equity. He is regarded as one of the pioneer private equity practitioners in Malaysia with regional experience in Asia.
Prior to co-founding COPE, Dato’ Azam commenced his career with Public Bank in 1989. He joined the HSBC Group in 1992 and was later trained in Hong Kong. Whilst with the HSBC Group, he has served several areas of the group including HSBC Securities Services and Corporate Banking, as part of HSBC's lending team. He was also a fund manager with Phileo Asset Management in 1997.
Dato’ Azam was also the Co-founder of Opus Asset Management Sdn Bhd, one of the few independent fund management companies in Malaysia that is dedicated and specialized in fixed income investment. He was the past Chairman of the Malaysian Venture Capital and Private Equity Association (MVCA) and currently a member of the Asian Institute of Chartered Bankers (AICB).
Dato’ Azam read Accountancy and Finance at the University of East London. He is also an alumnus of Saïd Business School, University of Oxford.
Badrul Hisham Jaafar
Senior Partner
Badrul is a Principal and Senior Vice President of COPE Private Equity. He is also a member of the Investment Committee.
Prior to joining the firm, he was an investment principal with Kumpulan Modal Perdana, a VC firm under the Ministry of Finance of Malaysia. Earlier in his career, he was in various leadership positions in the private equity, private banking, semiconductor and IT industry.
Badrul holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Investment and Banking Management from the University of Wisconsin–Madison.
Jeanette Lee
Partner, Investments
Jeanette is a Senior Vice President at COPE Private Equity. She has over 20 years of experience in private equity and venture capital doing deals across Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Indonesia, South Korea, Australia and Japan.
Prior to joining COPE, Jeanette headed the private equity business of RHB Banking Group. Earlier in her career, she held senior leadership positions doing leveraged buyouts and was the head of debt capital markets at an international bank.
Jeanette reads Finance and Economics at the University of Technology, Sydney.
Shariah and Industry Advisors
Dr. Aznan Hasan
Shariah Advisor
Dr Aznan is the Shariah Advisor for COPE Private Equity. He is currently an Associate Professor in Islamic Law at the Institute of Islamic Banking and Finance (IIiBF), International Islamic University Malaysia.
Besides COPE Private Equity, Dr Aznan also acts as Shariah advisor and consultant to the Securities Commission (of Malaysia), Maybank Islamic Bank and Hong Leong Islamic Bank.
Dr Aznan holds a doctorate in Shariah from the University of Wales, a Masters’ degree in Shariah from Cairo University and a Bachelor’s degree from Al-Azhar University.
Dato' Mohamed Ross
Independent Advisor
Dato' Mohamed Ross is an independent advisor to COPE Private Equity. He is currently an Independent Non-Executive Director at CIMB Group Holdings/CIMB Islamic Bank, and Kumpulan Perangsang Selangor.
Prior to his retirement, he was the Managing Director of HSBC Amanah, and was responsible for the Islamic retail and corporate business emanating from the branch network. Earlier in his career, he worked for HSBC in Hong Kong, London, New York and Malaysia.
Dato’ Sallehuddin Othman
Independent Advisor
Dato’ Sallehuddin is an independent advisor to COPE Private Equity. He is currently the Chairman and Independent Non-Executive Director of MSIG Insurance (Malaysia). He is also an Independent Director of AXA Affin Life Insurance and Bank of Tokyo-Mitsubishi UFJ (M).
Before his retirement, he served as the Group Managing Director of Malaysian Industrial Development Finance and Group Managing Director of UMW Holdings. Dato’ Sallehuddin holds a Master’s degree from City University, London.

Amirah Al-Yafii
Investment Analyst
Prior to joining COPE Private Equity in 2011, Amira had 4 years’ experience in audit and assurance with Ernst & Young, where she led audit engagements for various public listed companies within the Property Development, Environmental and ICT industry. A Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Amirah holds a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting and Finance from Victoria University, Australia.
Tan Leong Hong , ACA
Director, Investments
Prior to joining the firm, Leong Hong is an ICAEW Chartered Accountant with 4 years’ experience in audit and assurance, corporate finance and transaction service advisory with BDO Malaysia. He was involved in audit and advisory engagements across Malaysia, China, Indonesia and Europe within the Plantation, Property Development, Luxury Fashion and Manufacturing industry.
Johan Vanhaecke
Investment Analyst
Prior to joining COPE Private Equity, Johan has experience evaluating companies in various industries under the Malaysian Technology Development Corporation (MTDC). Earlier in his career, he was attached to UMW Corporation’s Treasury Department and handled Forex transactions. He is a graduate of UPM with an MBA in Finance and holds two degrees in Accounting and Marketing.
Gavin Tan , FCA
Director, Investments & Investor Relations
Prior to joining COPE, Gavin was part of the Corporate Finance team at PETRONAS advising on financing and M&A exercises. Before that, he qualified as an ICAEW Chartered Accountant with a City audit firm.
Gavin reads Finance and Accountancy at Paris Dauphine University and is a holder of Capital Market Services Representatives’ License. He is fluent in French and likes to read, game and hike in his spare time.
Mervina Chin
Investment Analyst
Mervina is an Investment Analyst at COPE. Before joining the firm, Mervina Chin worked in PwC as an Assurance Associate for two and a half years. During her tenure at PwC, she audited several financial institutions such as commercial and investment banks. She is currently pursuing the ICAEW professional qualification and has passed four papers, scoring above 75% on the first sitting. Mervina holds a Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Sheffield.
Wong Xi Rong
Investment Analyst
Prior to joining COPE, Xi Rong was part of the Strategy Consulting team at Accenture Malaysia advising Financial Services companies on digital transformation.
Xi Rong reads Finance and Economics at Monash University and Warwick Business School.
Tan Guan Quan
Investment Analyst
Prior to joining the firm, Guan Quan was Regional Sales Manager in the FMCG Industry, handling Sales, Marketing, Finance and Logistics across multiple retail channels.
He completed his undergraduate degree in Business Administration at Business School Lausanne in Switzerland and his Graduate Diploma in Law at City, University of London.
Francis Ding
Advisor, Portfolio Operations Team
Francis is an advisor to the Portfolio Operations Team for COPE Private Equity. He is also a director of a corporate advisory firm based in Singapore with a focus on mergers and acquisitions and pre-IPO advisory.
Prior to this, Francis worked at investment banking units of banks and securities brokerages. He was previously the Director and Head of Corporate Finance and Transaction Execution at the Singapore investment banking arm of a regional banking group.
Francis is a chartered financial analyst with the CFA Institute and holds a Bachelor of Economics from the University of Sydney, Australia.
Kamtorn Sila-On
Advisor, Portfolio Operations Team
Kamtorn is an advisor to the Portfolio Operations Team for COPE Private Equity. He is also a Director and President of Production and Finance of S&P Syndicate Public Co., Ltd., and also the Chair of the Remuneration and Audit Committee of Precious Shipping Public Co., Ltd. Both S&P Syndicate and Precious Shipping are companies listed on the Stock Exchange of Thailand.
Prior to this, Kamtorn was the Deputy Managing Director of Bualuang Securities Plc in Bangkok, Thailand. He holds an MBA from MIT Sloan School of Management and an MEng in Chemical Engineering from Imperial College London.
Louis Lau
Investment Analyst
Prior to joining the firm, Louis was with CIMB Investment Bank where he was involved in various investment deals from origination to exit/divestment. He was part of CIMB’s “The Complete Banker” program, where he was exposed to various functions of the bank. Louis is a graduate of the University of Western Australia.
Operations Team
Warda A. Aziz , FCCA
Director, Operations
Warda is in charge of Operations and Investor Relations in COPE Private Equity. Prior to joining the firm, Warda has 6 years’ experience as a fund accountant with State Street in Dublin, Ireland, serving as supervisor in the private equity industry for various institutional clients.
She holds a BA (Hons) in Accounting and Finance from Liverpool John Moores University, in association with the Dublin Business School. She is also a Fellow Chartered Certified Accountant.
Najihah Noor Mazalan
Senior Account Executive
Najihah is a senior member of the Operations Department of COPE Private Equity.
Najihah started her career in audit and assurance with Deloitte Malaysia.
She holds a Master’s degree in Forensic Accounting and Financial Criminology from Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM).
Fathin Mohd Nor , ACCA
Senior Account Executive
Fathin is a senior member of the Operations Department of COPE Private Equity. Prior to joining the firm, Fathin has worked as an Audit Associate for almost 3 years with Deloitte Malaysia.
She is a member of Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA).
Faiz Mokthi
Account Executive
Muhammad Faiz, a member of the Operations Department at COPE Private Equity, brings over 3 years of experience to the team.
He holds a BA (Hons) in Accounting and Finance from Kolej Poly Tech Mara Bangi, in collaboration with the Dublin Business School. He then began his ACCA journey in Ireland at the Dublin Business School and is now completing it in Malaysia.
Risk & Compliance Team
Rozaidah Roslan
Director, Risk & Compliance
Rozaidah is responsible for leading the compliance unit in COPE and ensuring strong corporate governance across the firm. Prior to this, Rozaidah has 3 years’ experience in investment compliance with respect to alternative investment transactions at the Employees Provident Fund of Malaysia. She holds a Bachelor (Hons) of Accounting from the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) and is an affiliate member of ACCA.
Adli Danish Azman
Compliance & ESG Executive
Adli joined COPE as its Compliance & ESG Executive. He was called to the High Court of Malaya early 2023 as an advocate & solicitor after reading law at Universiti Utara Malaysia.
Adli has always been passionate about sustainability & human rights, and the connection of both with corporate & commercial matters.
Human Resources
Faathir Haqqani
HR Manager
Prior to joining COPE, Faathir was working with MNC such as Nestlé and The British International School of Kuala Lumpur as HR Generalist for 8 years. During his tenure at Nestlé, he oversees the Human Resource functions end-to-end in Compensation & Benefits, Global Mobility, and HR Administrative.
Faathir holds a First-Class Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resource of Management from University of Greenwich.
